Matsya Purana — Pratiśukra Rite and the Worship of Śukra
पीताङ्गरागवसनो घृतहोमं तु कारयेत् प्रणम्य च गवा सार्धं ब्राह्मणाय निवेदयेत् //
pītāṅgarāgavasano ghṛtahomaṃ tu kārayet praṇamya ca gavā sārdhaṃ brāhmaṇāya nivedayet //
Wearing yellow garments and yellow unguents, one should have a ghee-offering (ghṛta-homa) performed; and, having bowed down, one should present a cow as a gift to a brāhmaṇa.
This verse is not about Pralaya; it focuses on dharmic ritual conduct—performing a ghee-homa and completing it with respectful charity (go-dāna) to a brāhmaṇa.
It prescribes a householder-style observance: purity and auspicious attire, conducting a ghṛta-homa, and sealing the rite with humility (praṇāma) and dāna—an ethical model also expected of righteous kings supporting brāhmaṇas and public dharma.
The ritual significance is explicit: ghṛta-homa (ghee oblations) performed with auspicious markers (yellow clothing/unguents) and concluded through go-dāna to a brāhmaṇa, emphasizing correct procedure and charitable completion of rites.
