Matsya Purana — Paurava Genealogy
अथाश्वमेधेन ततः शतानीकस्य वीर्यवान् जज्ञे ऽधिसोमकृष्णाख्यः साम्प्रतं यो महायशाः //
athāśvamedhena tataḥ śatānīkasya vīryavān jajñe 'dhisomakṛṣṇākhyaḥ sāmprataṃ yo mahāyaśāḥ //
Then, through the Aśvamedha sacrifice, a mighty son was born to Śatānīka—renowned as Adhisoma (also called Kṛṣṇa), who at present is greatly celebrated.
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it belongs to a dynastic-genealogical passage, highlighting royal succession and ritual potency rather than cosmic dissolution.
It links kingship with Vedic ritual responsibility: the Aśvamedha is presented as a mark of sovereign power and dharmic rule, implying that a king upholds order through sanctioned sacrifices and lineage continuity.
The ritual significance is explicit: the Aśvamedha (horse-sacrifice) is named as the sacral act associated with royal prestige and the birth/recognition of a famed successor in the dynasty.
