Matsya Purana — Paurava Genealogy
मुद्गलस्यापि मौद्गल्याः क्षत्रोपेता द्विजातयः एते ह्य् अङ्गिरसः पक्षं संश्रिताः काण्वमुद्गलाः //
mudgalasyāpi maudgalyāḥ kṣatropetā dvijātayaḥ ete hy aṅgirasaḥ pakṣaṃ saṃśritāḥ kāṇvamudgalāḥ //
From Mudgala too arose the Maudgalya line—twice-born (dvija) men endowed with the status of Kṣatriyas. These, known as the Kāṇva-Mudgalas, are said to have attached themselves to the branch (pakṣa) of the sage Aṅgiras.
Nothing directly: this verse is genealogical, describing how the Maudgalyas (from Mudgala) align with the Angirasa branch, not cosmic creation or pralaya.
Indirectly, it frames social identity: being 'dvija' yet 'kṣatra-upeta' points to lineage-based roles where Kshatriya authority and dvija rites (study, initiation, ritual obligations) coexist—useful background for later dharma discussions.
No Vāstu or temple rule is stated; the only ritual implication is 'dvijātayaḥ', indicating eligibility for Vedic initiation and rites within this lineage classification.
