Matsya Purana — Navagraha Sacrifice for Planetary Pacification and Prosperity
विष्णुस्त्वमश्वरूपेण यस्मादमृतसम्भवः चन्द्रार्कवाहनो नित्यम् अतः शान्तिं प्रयच्छ मे //
viṣṇustvamaśvarūpeṇa yasmādamṛtasambhavaḥ candrārkavāhano nityam ataḥ śāntiṃ prayaccha me //
You are Viṣṇu in the form of a horse; from you arises the nectar of immortality. Ever borne by the Moon and the Sun, therefore grant me peace.
It does not directly describe pralaya; instead it praises Viṣṇu as the cosmic source of amṛta (immortality), implying divine preservation and restoration that counteracts dissolution.
By asking for śānti (peace), it aligns with the king’s duty to secure public order and the householder’s duty to maintain harmony; both are grounded in devotion and reliance on Viṣṇu as preserver.
Ritually, it functions as a śānti-prārthanā (peace-invocation) suitable for recitation in pūjā; iconographically, it hints at Viṣṇu’s aśva-form and solar-lunar symbolism useful for identifying or describing deity forms in temple contexts.
