Matsya Purana — Manifestation of Kauśikī
*ब्रह्मोवाच किं पुत्रि प्राप्तुकामासि किमलभ्यं ददामि ते विरम्यताम् अतिक्लेशात् तपसो ऽस्मान्मदाज्ञया //
*brahmovāca kiṃ putri prāptukāmāsi kimalabhyaṃ dadāmi te viramyatām atikleśāt tapaso 'smānmadājñayā //
Brahmā said: “What is it, dear daughter, that you desire to obtain? What is unattainable (to you)? I shall grant it to you. Desist from this austerity that brings excessive hardship—by my command, cease this severe tapas.”
This verse is not about Pralaya; it highlights a common Purāṇic motif—Brahmā intervenes when austerities become excessively severe and offers a boon instead.
It implies dharmic restraint: spiritual practice should not become self-torture; one should pursue aims through balanced discipline, and accept lawful means (like boons or duties) rather than extreme hardship.
No Vāstu/temple-building rule appears here; the ritual takeaway is the Purāṇic principle that intense tapas can yield divine attention, but moderation is advised when hardship becomes excessive.
