Matsya Purana — Lineage of Yayāti through Yadu and the Deeds of Kārtavīrya Arjuna
कृतवीर्यः कृताग्निश्च कृतवर्मा तथैव च कृतौजाश्च चतुर्थो ऽभूत् कृतवीर्यात्ततो ऽर्जुनः //
kṛtavīryaḥ kṛtāgniśca kṛtavarmā tathaiva ca kṛtaujāśca caturtho 'bhūt kṛtavīryāttato 'rjunaḥ //
The four sons were Kṛtavīrya, Kṛtāgni, likewise Kṛtavarmā, and as the fourth, Kṛtaujā. From Kṛtavīrya thereafter was born Arjuna (Kārtavīrya Arjuna).
This verse does not discuss pralaya or cosmology; it is a genealogical statement enumerating descendants and identifying Kārtavīrya Arjuna’s birth from Kṛtavīrya.
Indirectly, it supports the Matsya Purana’s rajadharma context by situating exemplary (or famous) rulers within a lineage; genealogies legitimize kingship and frame later ethical and political teachings through recognized royal ancestors.
No vastu, temple-architecture, or ritual procedure is mentioned; the verse functions purely as a dynastic record within the Matsya Purana’s vamsha narrative.
