Matsya Purana — Lineage of the Pitṛs
स्थानेश्वरे भवानी तु बिल्वले बिल्वपत्त्रिका श्रीशैले माधवी नाम भद्रा भद्रेश्वरे तथा //
sthāneśvare bhavānī tu bilvale bilvapattrikā śrīśaile mādhavī nāma bhadrā bhadreśvare tathā //
At Sthāneśvara she is Bhavānī; at Bilvala she is Bilvapattrikā; at Śrīśaila she is called Mādhavī; and likewise at Bhadreśvara she is known as Bhadrā.
This verse does not address pralaya; it catalogs sacred kshetras and the Goddess’s localized names, emphasizing tirtha-based devotion rather than cosmology.
Indirectly, it supports the householder’s dharma of worship and pilgrimage: knowing the deity’s kshetra-name guides proper invocation (nama-japa) and site-specific devotion when visiting temples.
Ritually, it highlights bilva-leaf association (Bilvapattrikā), a key offering in Śaiva/Śākta worship; it also implies kshetra-specific iconography and naming conventions used in temples and liturgy.
