Matsya Purana — Hiranyakashipu’s Boons
*विष्णुरुवाच भयं त्यजध्वममरा अभयं वो ददाम्यहम् तथैव त्रिदिवं देवाः प्रतिपद्यत मा चिरम् //
*viṣṇuruvāca bhayaṃ tyajadhvamamarā abhayaṃ vo dadāmyaham tathaiva tridivaṃ devāḥ pratipadyata mā ciram //
Viṣṇu said: “Cast off your fear, O immortals; I grant you fearlessness. And so, O gods, regain your heaven (the threefold celestial realm) without delay.”
This verse is not about Pralaya; it highlights divine protection and the restoration of cosmic order by assuring the Devas of safety and returning them to Svarga.
It models the ideal of “abhaya-dāna” (granting security): like Viṣṇu protects the gods, a righteous king should remove fear from his subjects, and a householder should offer protection and reassurance to dependents and guests.
No Vāstu or temple-building rule is stated here; the ritual takeaway is the principle of seeking divine refuge and receiving “abhaya” (assurance of safety) as a recurring puranic motif.
