Matsya Purana — Genealogy of the Śūra–Vasudeva
देवक्यां जज्ञिरे शौरेः सुषेणः कीर्तिमानपि उदासी भद्रसेनश्च ऋषिवासस्तथैव च षष्ठो भद्रविदेहश्च कंसः सर्वानघातयत् //
devakyāṃ jajñire śaureḥ suṣeṇaḥ kīrtimānapi udāsī bhadrasenaśca ṛṣivāsastathaiva ca ṣaṣṭho bhadravidehaśca kaṃsaḥ sarvānaghātayat //
From Devakī were born to Śauri: Suṣeṇa and the renowned Kīrtimān; Udāsī, Bhadrasena, and likewise Ṛṣivāsa; and the sixth, Bhadravideha—whom Kaṃsa slew, all of them.
This verse does not address Pralaya; it is a genealogical narrative describing Devakī’s sons by Śauri (Vasudeva) and their killing by Kaṃsa.
Indirectly, it functions as a moral-political warning: Kaṃsa’s act of killing the children underscores adharma and tyrannical fear-driven rule, contrasting with the Purāṇic ideal of a king as protector of subjects and kin.
No Vāstu, temple-building, iconographic, or ritual procedure is stated in this verse; its focus is purely dynastic and historical within the Purāṇic storyline.
