Matsya Purana — Description of Himavat
निरुद्धपवनैर्देशैर् नीलशाद्वलमण्डितैः क्वचिच् च कुसुमैर्युक्तम् अत्यन्तरुचिरं शुभम् //
niruddhapavanairdeśair nīlaśādvalamaṇḍitaiḥ kvacic ca kusumairyuktam atyantaruciraṃ śubham //
It was a region sheltered from harsh winds, adorned with dark blue-green turf, and in places graced with flowers—exceedingly beautiful and auspicious.
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it focuses on the qualities of an auspicious, life-supporting landscape—sheltered winds, healthy turf, and flowering abundance.
It supports the duty of prudent settlement and stewardship: a king or householder should choose a protected, fertile, and pleasing location, promoting health, prosperity, and stability for residents.
It implies Vastu criteria for site-selection: wind-shelter (niruddha-pavana), verdant ground-cover (nīla-śādvala), and natural auspicious markers like flowers—signs of a suitable place for building homes, towns, or sacred structures.
