Uttara’s Fear and Arjuna’s Martial Reassertion

Vaiśampāyana said: Thus addressed by Pārtha (Arjuna), the earring-wearing prince of Virāṭa, Uttara, helpless at that moment, leapt down from the chariot and climbed the śamī tree. Then Dhanañjaya, the son of Pṛthā, seated on the chariot and intent on the destruction of foes, spoke in a commanding tone: “Quickly bring down these bows from the tree, and swiftly remove their leaf-wrappings as well.”

In a moment of danger, rightful leadership combines clarity, urgency, and discipline. Arjuna’s firm command channels fear into purposeful action, showing how dharma is upheld through steadiness and competent guidance rather than panic.
After Arjuna instructs him, the frightened prince Uttara jumps down from the chariot and climbs the śamī tree to retrieve the concealed weapons. Arjuna then orders him to quickly bring down the bows and remove their leaf-wrappings so they can be used immediately.
