Brahmaṇānāṃ Yācanā—Tīrtha-yātrā-prastāvaḥ
The Brahmanas’ Petition and the Proposal of Pilgrimage
taṁ pāṇḍavāgrajo rājā sagaṇo brāhmaṇāś ca te | upātiṣṭhan mahābhāgaṁ divi śakram ivāmarāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Then the eldest of the Pāṇḍavas, the king, together with his companions and those brāhmaṇas, rose to receive that greatly fortunate one—just as, in heaven, the immortals rise in attendance when Indra appears.
The verse highlights dharma expressed as respectful reception: those who possess authority (a king and his retinue) should rise and honor spiritual excellence and worthy guests, recognizing merit as the basis of true eminence.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Yudhiṣṭhira, along with his companions and the brāhmaṇas present, stands up to welcome a highly revered person, compared to how the gods rise when Indra arrives in heaven.
