Gautama said: “Two boons have been secured for my father-in-law—his eyesight and the recovery of his own sovereignty. Besides these, I have also obtained two further boons: that my father be blessed with a hundred sons, and that I myself have a hundred sons.”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma expressed through gratitude and familial responsibility: blessings are sought not merely for oneself but to restore elders (father-in-law’s sight and kingship) and to secure continuity of the family line (hundred sons for father and for oneself).

Gautama reports the boons that have been obtained: two for his father-in-law (vision and regained sovereignty) and two concerning progeny—one granting his father a hundred sons and another granting himself a hundred sons.
