मातापितृपूजन-प्रधानधर्मः (Primacy of Filial Service) — Mārkaṇḍeya’s Account of the Vyādha’s Instruction
इदं तु पुण्यमाख्यानं विष्णो: समनुकीर्तनम्
idaṃ tu puṇyam ākhyānaṃ viṣṇoḥ samanukīrtanam
Markandeya said: “This, indeed, is a sacred narrative—an unbroken praise and recounting of Viṣṇu. By hearing and repeating it, one is drawn toward purity of mind and steadfast devotion, for it keeps the listener aligned with dharma through remembrance of the Divine.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse elevates devotional remembrance: a sacred story that continually praises Viṣṇu is itself purifying (puṇya). Recounting and hearing such narratives supports ethical steadiness by keeping one oriented toward dharma through reverent memory.
Mārkaṇḍeya, as speaker, characterizes the preceding or forthcoming account as a holy ākhyāna and explicitly frames it as a continuous celebration of Viṣṇu, signaling its religious and moral significance for the listeners.
