मातापितृपूजन-प्रधानधर्मः (Primacy of Filial Service) — Mārkaṇḍeya’s Account of the Vyādha’s Instruction

दद्यां वित्तं द्विजाग्रयेभ्य: शत्रूणां चापि दुर्जय: । सख्यं च विष्णुना मे स्याद्‌ भूतेष्वद्रोह एव च,“देवताओं! मैं श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणोंको धन दान करूँ, शत्रुओंके लिये दुर्जय बना रहूँ, भगवान्‌ विष्णुके साथ सख्य भावसे मेरा प्रेम हो और किसी भी प्राणीके प्रति मेरे मनमें द्रोह न रह जाय

dadyāṁ vittaṁ dvijāgrebhyaḥ śatrūṇāṁ cāpi durjayaḥ | sakhyaṁ ca viṣṇunā me syād bhūteṣv adroha eva ca ||

Mārkaṇḍeya said: “May I give wealth in charity to the foremost of the twice-born; may I remain unconquerable to my enemies; may I have friendship and loving intimacy with Lord Viṣṇu; and may there be in me only non-malice toward all living beings.”
