ब्राह्मणानुयात्रा—शौनकोपदेशः

Brāhmaṇas Follow into Exile and Śaunaka’s Instruction

मनसो दुःखमूलं तु स्नेह इत्युपलभ्यते । स्नेहात्‌ तु सज्जते जन्तुर्दुःखयोगमुपैति च,“मनके दुःखका मूल कारण क्या है? इसका पता लगानेपर 'स्नेह' (संसारमें आसक्ति)- की ही उपलब्धि होती है। इसी स्नेहके कारण ही जीव कहीं आसक्त होता और दुःख पाता है

manaso duḥkhamūlaṃ tu sneha ityupalabhyate | snehāt tu sajjate jantur duḥkhayogamupaiti ca ||

Vaiśampāyana said: “It is understood that the root of the mind’s sorrow is attachment (sneha). Because of that attachment, a living being clings to objects and relations, and thereby comes into union with suffering.”
