सहस्रान्ते नरा: सर्वे प्रायशो5नृतवादिन: । यज्ञप्रतिनिधि: पार्थ दानप्रतिनिधिस्तथा
Transliteration
sahasrānte narāḥ sarve prāyaśo 'nṛtavādinaḥ | yajñapratinidhiḥ pārtha dānapratinidhis tathā ||
Translation
Vaiśampāyana said: “At the close of a thousand years, nearly all men tend to become speakers of untruth. In such a time, O Pārtha, sacrifice itself becomes a mere substitute, and so too does charity become only a substitute.”
