tam āsīnaṁ mahākāyāḥ śaṅkukārṇā mahājavāḥ | upopaviśur yakṣā rākṣasāś ca sahasraśaḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: As Kubera sat there, thousands upon thousands of mighty Yakṣas and Rākṣasas—huge-bodied, swift in movement, and with spike-like ears—took their seats near him. And just as the gods stand surrounding Indra, so too did companies of Gandharvas and hosts of Apsarases encircle Kubera on every side, attending upon him in reverent order.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the idea of ordered service and reverent attendance around a rightful lord: just as Indra is surrounded by gods, Kubera is attended by his hosts. It reflects a dharmic vision of hierarchy and duty within a cosmic administration, where power is accompanied by disciplined retinues and proper decorum.

Vaiśampāyana describes Kubera seated in his celestial setting, with thousands of formidable Yakṣas and Rākṣasas sitting near him, while Gandharvas and Apsarases stand around him on all sides—depicting the grandeur and guarded splendor of Kubera’s court.
