The Slaying of Yavakrīta at Raibhya’s Hermitage

tataḥ samabhavad rakṣo ghorākṣaṃ bhīmadarśanam | abrūtāṃ tau tadā raibhyaṃ kiṃ kāryaṃ karavāvahai ||

Then there appeared a rākṣasa, dreadful-eyed and terrifying to behold. At that moment the two addressed the sage Raibhya, asking, “What task shall we carry out in obedience to your command?”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined responsiveness to rightful authority: even amid fearsome manifestations, the proper course is to seek clear instruction and act in accordance with the command of a revered sage, aligning one’s agency with dharma rather than impulse.

A terrifying rākṣasa suddenly appears. Immediately, two individuals (speaking in the dual) approach the sage Raibhya and ask what action they should undertake—signaling that the apparition is connected to the sage’s power or purpose and that they await his directive.
