Yudhiṣṭhira’s Deliberation on Peace-Means

Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “The discourse that the Blessed Lord is about to utter—stirring and setting in motion this sacred speech—will be auspicious and worthy of reverent acceptance for the Bhāratas and the Sṛñjayas. For those who seek prosperity and well-being, that divine utterance will be blameless and fit to be held upon the head (accepted as supreme counsel); but to those already near death and ruin, it will appear unacceptable and impossible to take in.”

Educational Q&A

Wise counsel is intrinsically auspicious and blameless, but its reception depends on the listener’s inner condition: those oriented toward welfare and dharma can accept it, while those already committed to self-destruction (as if ‘near death’) find it ungraspable and reject it.

Dhṛtarāṣṭra anticipates a forthcoming divine or authoritative discourse meant to guide the Bhāratas and the Sṛñjayas at a critical moment before the great conflict; he notes that such counsel will benefit the receptive, yet will not be taken in by those headed toward ruin.
