Educational Q&A

The verse contrasts physical sight with inner deprivation: though Dhṛtarāṣṭra is blind, he recognizes the supreme auspiciousness of directly beholding Kṛṣṇa. It highlights bhakti (reverent longing) and the ethical idea that proximity to the righteous and the divine is itself a rare fortune.

At the opening of this chapter in the Udyoga Parva, Dhṛtarāṣṭra speaks to Sañjaya, expressing envy of those who will see Kṛṣṇa nearby. He describes Kṛṣṇa as resplendent, illuminating all directions, setting a devotional and anticipatory tone amid the political tension preceding war.
