yadi tāvacchamaṃ kuryān nyāyena kurupuṅgavaḥ | na bhavet kurupāṇḍūnāṃ saubhrātreṇa mahān kṣayaḥ ||
If, even now, the bull among the Kurus were to make peace in accordance with justice, then there would be no great destruction of the Kurus and the Pāṇḍavas arising from their fraternal bond.
Peace grounded in justice (nyāya) is presented as the dharmic path for a ruler; accepting a fair settlement prevents catastrophic, kin-driven destruction and preserves social and familial order.
Vāyudeva argues that if the Kuru leader—implicitly Duryodhana—would agree to a just peace, the impending war between closely related Kurus and Pāṇḍavas could be averted, avoiding massive loss born from fraternal entanglement.
