atha darpānvitō mōhān na kuryād dhṛtarāṣṭrajaḥ | anyēṣāṁ prēṣayitvā ca paścād asmān samāhaye ||
If, blinded by delusion and swollen with pride, Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son (Duryodhana) does not accept our proposal, then first send invitations to the other kings for the war; and only after that, invite us as well.
वायुदेव उवाच
Pride and delusion distort judgment and lead to rejecting wise proposals; ethical counsel urges orderly, responsible action—seek broader consensus and proceed without impulsive favoritism when conflict becomes unavoidable.
Vāyu advises that if Duryodhana, driven by arrogance and confusion, refuses their proposal, then invitations to join the impending war should be sent to other kings first, and only afterwards should Vāyu’s side be formally summoned.
