Nara-Nārāyaṇa Precedent and Bhīṣma’s Counsel on Kṛṣṇa–Arjuna; Karṇa’s Reply
एतौ हि कर्मणा लोकं नन्दयामासतुर्ध्ुवम् । द्विधाभूतौ महाप्राज्ञौ विद्धि ब्रह्मन् परंतपौ | असुराणां विनाशाय देवगन्धर्वपूजिती,इन्होंने अपने सत्कर्मोंसे निश्चय ही सम्पूर्ण लोकोंका आनन्द बढ़ाया है। ब्रह्मन! ये दोनों अत्यन्त बुद्धिमान् और शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाले हैं। इन्होंने एक होते हुए भी असुरोंका विनाश करनेके लिये दो शरीर धारण किये हैं। देवता और गन्धर्व सभी इनकी पूजा करते हैं
etau hi karmaṇā lokaṁ nandayāmāsatur dhruvam | dvidhābhūtau mahāprājñau viddhi brahman paraṁtapau || asurāṇāṁ vināśāya devagandharvapūjitau ||
For by their righteous deeds these two have surely gladdened the worlds. Know them, O Brahmin, to be exceedingly wise and fierce tormentors of their foes. Though one in essence, they have assumed two forms for the destruction of the asuras; gods and gandharvas alike worship them.
