यदैव शत्रुर्जानीयात्‌ सपत्नं त्यक्तजीवितम्‌ । तदैवास्मादुद्धिजते सर्पाद्‌ वेश्मगतादिव,शत्रुको ज्यों ही यह मालूम हो जाता है कि उसका विपक्षी प्राणोंका मोह छोड़कर युद्ध करनेके लिये तैयार है, तभी घरमें रहनेवाले सर्पकी भाँति उसके भयसे वह उद्विग्न हो उठता है

“As soon as an enemy learns that his opponent has cast off attachment to life and stands ready for battle, at that very moment he is shaken with fear—like a serpent lurking within a house.”
