Udyoga Parva — Gandhārī’s Counsel to Duryodhana

Vaiśampāyana said: All the Kurus know well what was spoken in the Kuru assembly—those harsh words uttered by Duḥśāsana—when the Kuntī-born Pāṇḍavas, scorched by injustice yet formidable to their foes, were departing into exile in the forest.

The verse highlights ethical accountability in public life: when cruelty and injustice are committed in an open court, the entire assembly becomes witness to the wrong. Knowing what was said and done implies moral awareness, and silence or complicity in such moments becomes part of the adharma that fuels later conflict.
Vaiśampāyana recalls that the Kurus all remember the severe, insulting remarks Duḥśāsana made in the Kuru court when the Pāṇḍavas were being driven to depart for the forest in exile. This remembrance frames the background of grievance and the moral stain on the Kaurava court.
