Educational Q&A

The verse underscores dharma in the form of respecting a virtuous woman’s dignity and condemning outrage against one who is honorable and deeply cherished; moral gravity increases when the victim is blameless and revered.

Vaiśampāyana characterizes Draupadī as noble, virtuous, and the principal queen of the Pāṇḍavas, then rebukes the addressee for having nevertheless committed an offense and humiliation against her—framing it as a serious ethical transgression.
