Educational Q&A

The verse links spiritual discipline (tapas) with the capacity to discern and interpret sacred knowledge: through austerity and inner steadiness, one gains clarity to distinguish the Vedas’ teachings in their many branches and meanings.

Vaiśampāyana, as narrator, addresses the listener and foretells an ability—grounded in tapas—to analyze or distinguish the Vedas in multiple ways, indicating a context of instruction about learning, scriptural understanding, and disciplined pursuit of knowledge.
