अध्याय ३५१ — उञ्छवृत्ति-व्रतसिद्धेः मानुषस्य परमगतिः
Sūrya–Nāga Dialogue on the Perfected Gleaner-Ascetic
bhaviṣyanti mahātmāno rājānaḥ prathitā bhuvi | brahman! tvaṃ sadā hī avicala evaṃ ajeya bhaviṣyasi | punaḥ dvāpara-kali-yugayoḥ sandhikāle samāgate bharata-vaṃśe kuru-vaṃśī kṣatriyā bhaviṣyanti | te mahāmanasvino rājānaḥ samasta-bhūmaṇḍale vikhyātā bhaviṣyanti || teṣāṃ tvattaḥ prasūtānāṃ kulabhedo bhaviṣyati ||
Vaiśampāyana said: In times to come, great-souled kings will arise, renowned across the earth. O Brahmin, you will remain ever steadfast and unconquerable. And when the junction of the Dvāpara and Kali ages arrives, in the Bharata lineage there will be Kuru-line Kṣatriyas. Those high-minded kings will become famous throughout the whole circle of the earth. Yet among those born from you, a division of the family line will occur.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames history as shaped by time (yuga) and lineage: even when noble rulers arise and gain world-wide fame, internal division within a family line can still occur. It cautions that greatness and stability are not guaranteed by birth or power alone; unity and right conduct must be maintained.
Vaiśampāyana reports a forward-looking statement: future kings of the Bharata–Kuru line will become renowned, especially around the transition from Dvāpara to Kali. At the same time, he notes that among the descendants of the addressed Brahmin, a split in the clan will arise.
