नरनारायण-नारदसंवादः
Nara-Nārāyaṇa–Nārada Discourse on Vision, Elements, and Entry into Vāsudeva
व्याधिभिमथ्यमानानां त्यजतां विपुलं धनम् | वेदनां नापकर्षन्ति यतमानाश्षिकित्सका:
vyādhibhir mathyamānānāṁ tyajatāṁ vipulaṁ dhanam | vedanāṁ nāpakarṣanti yatamānāś cikitsakāḥ ||
Nārada said: “Even when people, crushed by disease, give up vast wealth, the physicians—though striving with all their effort—often cannot draw away their pain.”
नारद उवाच
Wealth is not a guaranteed remedy for suffering: even when the afflicted relinquish great riches, pain may remain despite the best efforts of physicians. The verse points toward humility, detachment, and a realistic view of worldly means.
Nārada is speaking in a didactic context within Śānti Parva, using the example of severe illness to illustrate the limits of material resources and human skill in overcoming suffering.
