Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
nārada uvāca | yas te putro gamito 'yaṃ vijātaḥ suvarṇaṣṭhīvī yamadāt parvatas te | punas tu te putram ahaṃ dadāmi hiraṇyanābhaṃ varṣasahasriṇaṃ ca ||
Narada said: “O king, the son born to you—named Suvarṇaṣṭhīvī—whom the sage Parvata had given you, has now departed. Therefore I now grant you another son, named Hiraṇyanābha, who will live for a thousand years.”
The verse underscores impermanence and the working of destiny: even divinely or sage-bestowed gains (like a son) may not endure, yet dharmic order also provides renewal through rightful blessings and continuity of lineage.
Narada informs the king that the previously obtained son Suvarṇaṣṭhīvī—given earlier through the sage Parvata—has departed, and Narada now bestows another son, Hiraṇyanābha, promising him a thousand-year lifespan.
