प्रथयिष्यति वै लोकान्‌ पृथुरित्येव शब्दित: । क्षताद्‌ यो वै त्रायतीति स तस्मात्‌ क्षत्रिय: स्मृत:,“ऋषियोंने यह सोचकर कि सब लोकोंमें धर्मकी मर्यादा प्रथित (स्थापित) करेंगे, उनका नाम पृथु रखा था। वे क्षत अर्थात्‌ दुःखसे सबका त्राण करते थे, इसलिये क्षत्रिय कहलाये

Translation

The ṛṣis, thinking, “He shall spread and establish the bounds of dharma throughout all the worlds,” gave him the name Pṛthu. And because he rescued all from kṣata—suffering—therefore he is remembered as a Kṣatriya.
