Bhishma said: Seeking the welfare of the worlds, they appealed for the destruction of Vṛtrāsura. Thereafter, the illustrious Bṛhaspati, son of Aṅgiras, along with other great seers—having witnessed Vṛtrāsura’s formidable prowess—approached Mahādeva and petitioned him to bring about Vṛtrāsura’s downfall for the good of all beings.

The verse highlights lokahita—acting from the motive of universal welfare. Even powerful beings are opposed not out of hatred but to protect the world’s order; righteous action is framed as a duty undertaken for the common good.
After witnessing Vṛtrāsura’s extraordinary might, Bṛhaspati and other great sages go to Mahādeva (Śiva) and submit a request that Vṛtrāsura be destroyed, motivated by concern for the welfare of the worlds.
