अज्ञान–लोभयोः परस्परहेतुत्वम्

Mutual Causality of Ignorance and Greed

यज्ञो दानं दया वेदा: सत्यं च पृथिवीपते । पज्चैतानि पवित्राणि षष्ठ॑ सुचरितं तप:,पृथ्वीनाथ! यज्ञ, दान, दया, वेद, और सत्य--ये पाँचों पवित्र बताये गये हैं। इनके साथ अच्छी तरह आचरणमें लाया हुआ तप भी छठा पवित्र कर्म माना गया है

Transliteration

yajño dānaṃ dayā vedāḥ satyaṃ ca pṛthivīpate | pañcaitāni pavitrāṇi ṣaṣṭhaṃ sucaritaṃ tapaḥ ||

Translation

Śaunaka said: “O lord of the earth, sacrifice, charity, compassion, the Vedas, and truth—these five are declared to be purifying. Along with them, austerity that is well-practised and rightly conducted is counted as the sixth purifying discipline.”
