Janamejaya’s Appeal for Pacification and Śaunaka’s Counsel on Humility
Bhishma said: “Welcome to you today. Tell me—what can I do for you? You should not feel any distress; you are here as though in your own home.”
The verse highlights dharmic hospitality: a host should receive a guest with respect, offer service, and remove the guest’s anxiety by assuring safety and belonging.
Bhishma addresses an arriving person courteously, welcomes them, asks what assistance they need, and reassures them not to worry because they are being treated as at home.
