Educational Q&A

Bhīṣma frames his instruction by appealing to an authoritative precedent: ethical and political guidance is strengthened by citing an ancient exemplary narrative (itihāsa) and a sage–king dialogue as a model for right conduct and sound counsel.

Bhīṣma introduces a new illustrative episode: an old account presented as a conversation between the sage Bhāradvāja and King Śatruñjaya, which will be used to clarify the topic under discussion in this section of Śānti Parva.
