Bhīṣma said: “O scorcher of foes, for one who continually shows disrespect to these three venerable authorities, neither this world brings happiness nor does the next.”

Persistent disrespect toward one’s rightful ‘gurus’ (venerable authorities) ruins both worldly welfare and spiritual/afterlife good. Reverence is presented as a foundation for dharmic character and lasting well-being.
In Shanti Parva, Bhishma instructs the king (addressed as ‘parantapa’) on dharma and proper conduct. Here he warns that one who habitually dishonours the three revered guides (guravaḥ trayaḥ) finds no happiness either in this life or the next.
