मातापितृगुरुपूजा-प्रशंसा
Praise of Venerating Mother, Father, and Teacher
इति श्रीमहा भारते शान्तिपर्वणि राजधर्मानुशासनपर्वणि मातृपितृगुरुमाहात्म्ये अष्टाधिकशततमोड<ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate śāntiparvaṇi rājadharmānuśāsanaparvaṇi mātṛpitṛgurumāhātmye aṣṭādhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Śānti Parva—specifically the section on the instruction of royal duties—concludes the chapter on the greatness of the mother, father, and teacher, being the one-hundred-and-eighth chapter (of this section).
भीष्म उवाच
This line is a colophon marking the close of a teaching unit: within Bhīṣma’s instruction on rājadharma (righteous kingship), it highlights the ethical priority of honoring and serving one’s mother, father, and guru as foundational supports of dharma and social order.
The verse functions as a formal closing statement for the chapter: it situates the discourse within the Śānti Parva and the rājadharma instruction section, and it names the completed topic—‘the greatness of mother, father, and teacher’—identifying it as the 108th chapter of that section.
