Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “Among them will be Bhīmasena—mighty in strength and famed as a great archer—who will come to the battle whirling his mace, like Yama the punisher brandishing his staff.”
धृतराष्ट उवाच
The verse underscores the moral weight of impending conflict: when adharma escalates into war, formidable agents of retribution arise. The comparison to Yama’s staff evokes the idea that violence and injustice invite inevitable consequences, and that power in battle carries the gravity of punishment and accountability.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra describes the opposing force and highlights Bhīma as a terrifying presence. He foresees Bhīma advancing into battle, whirling his mace like Yama (Antaka) wielding the rod of punishment—an image meant to convey Bhīma’s destructive prowess and the dread it inspires.
