Yudhiṣṭhira’s Enumeration of Stakes in the Dice Match
Dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca: Pāṇḍoḥ putrān mā dviṣasveha rājan tathāiva te bhrātṛ-dhanaṁ samagram | mitra-drohe tāta mahān adharmaḥ pitāmahā ye tava te ’pi teṣām ||
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “O king, do not hate the sons of Pāṇḍu here. They are your brothers, and all the wealth of your brothers is, in truth, also yours. Dear son, betrayal of friends is a very great unrighteousness. Remember: the grandsires who are yours are also theirs.”
Hatred toward one’s own kin and betrayal of allies are condemned as adharma; shared lineage and shared rights should restrain envy and hostility.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra counsels the Kuru king (implicitly his son) not to bear enmity toward the Pāṇḍavas, stressing brotherhood, common inheritance, and the grave sin of betraying friends and family bonds.
