Decision on the Highest Honor at the Assembly
vaiśampāyana uvāca | tato bhīṣmaḥ śāntanavo buddhyā niścitya vīryavān | amanyata tadā kṛṣṇam arhaṇīyatamaṃ bhuvi ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Then the mighty Bhīṣma, son of Śāntanu, having reached a firm conclusion through his discernment, regarded Kṛṣṇa at that time as the most worthy of honor upon the earth.
Bhīṣma’s judgment highlights that the highest honor should be offered to the one most intrinsically worthy—worthiness grounded in dharma and spiritual excellence, not merely in worldly status or force.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, Bhīṣma reflects and reaches a firm conclusion, declaring Kṛṣṇa to be the foremost recipient of reverence on earth, thereby setting a standard for proper recognition and honor.
