Jarāsandha as Obstacle to the Rājasūya — Kṛṣṇa’s Strategic Genealogical Brief
Sabhā Parva, Adhyāya 13
sa dharmyaḥ pāṇḍavas teṣāṃ vacaḥ śrutvā viśāṃpate | dhṛṣṭam iṣṭaṃ variṣṭhaṃ ca jagrāha manasārihā ||
Vaiśampāyana said: O lord of the people, that righteous Pāṇḍava—Yudhiṣṭhira, the foe-subduer—having heard their words, accepted within his heart that bold counsel, which was dear to him and, in his judgment, the best.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler grounded in dharma should receive counsel by judging its righteousness and excellence, not merely its immediate utility; inner assent (manasā jagrāha) reflects thoughtful ethical acceptance rather than impulsive action.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Yudhiṣṭhira, after hearing the words spoken by others, inwardly accepts their bold yet pleasing and best counsel—signaling a turning point of agreement before any outward step is taken.
