Sañjaya said: Believing that Karṇa had won, your warriors were filled with supreme joy and raised lion-like shouts. O lord of the Kurus, they all concluded that Karṇa had grievously wounded Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna.

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how quickly desire and factional loyalty can turn uncertain battlefield signs into confident conclusions. It cautions that collective excitement and rumor can masquerade as truth, especially in war where visibility and information are limited.

After an exchange in battle, the Kaurava troops interpret events as Karṇa’s victory. They celebrate loudly, believing that Karṇa has badly wounded both Kṛṣṇa (Arjuna’s charioteer) and Arjuna.
