Sañjaya said: “Even Arjuna would not be able to withstand Karṇa in battle—just as a fierce gale cannot confront the mighty mountain Meru. And the sons of Pṛthā (Kuntī), reflecting again and again on the enmity I have stubbornly forced upon them, will not place their trust in me.”

Educational Q&A

Stubbornly sustained hostility destroys credibility: even if one later speaks reasonably, those repeatedly wronged will not easily trust. The verse also warns against overconfidence in war by highlighting perceived limits of even great heroes.

Sañjaya assesses the battlefield situation, asserting that Arjuna may not endure Karṇa’s force. He then anticipates that the Pāṇḍavas, remembering the long-standing enmity imposed upon them, will not be reassured by him or place confidence in his words.
