तदनन्तर कर्णका हर्ष बढ़ानेके लिये कौरव-सैनिक वहाँ सब ओर बाजे बजाने और शंखध्वनि करने लगे ।। तथैव पाण्डवा: सर्वे हर्षपन्तो धनंजयम् | तूर्गशड्खनिनादेन दिश: सर्वा व्यनादयन्,इसी प्रकार समस्त पाण्डव भी अर्जुनका हर्ष बढ़ाते हुए वाद्यों और शंखोंकी ध्वनिसे सम्पूर्ण दिशाओंको प्रतिध्वनित करने लगे
tadanantaraṁ karṇasya harṣaṁ vardhayituṁ kaurava-sainikāḥ tatra sarvato vādyāni vādayām āsuḥ śaṅkha-nādaṁ ca cakruḥ | tathaiva pāṇḍavāḥ sarve harṣayantaḥ dhanañjayam tūrya-śaṅkha-ninādena diśaḥ sarvāḥ vyanādayan |
Sañjaya said: Thereafter, to heighten Karṇa’s exhilaration, the Kaurava soldiers on every side began to sound their instruments and blow conches. In the same way, all the Pāṇḍavas, seeking to raise Dhanañjaya (Arjuna)’s spirits, made every quarter resound with the blare of trumpets and the roar of conches.
संजय उवाच
Even in a dharma-yuddha setting, collective resolve is strengthened through disciplined encouragement: the armies use ritualized sound (conches and instruments) to steady the mind, affirm loyalty, and reinforce the chosen leader’s courage—showing how morale and intention shape action in war.
After a key moment in the battle sequence, the Kaurava troops loudly play instruments and blow conches to boost Karṇa’s confidence. The Pāṇḍavas respond in kind, making all directions echo with trumpets and conches to uplift Arjuna (Dhanañjaya).
