शरार्चिषं गाण्डिवचारुमण्डलं युगान्तसूर्यप्रतिमानतेजसम् । न कौरवा: शेकुरुदीक्षितुं जयं यथा रविं व्याधितचक्षुषो जना:,उस समय अर्जुन प्रलयकालके सूर्यकी भाँति तेजस्वी जान पड़ते थे। उनके बाण किरण-समूहोंके समान सब ओर छिटक रहे थे। खींचा हुआ गाण्डीव धनुष सूर्यके मनोहर मण्डल-सा प्रतीत होता था। जैसे रोगी नेत्रोंवाले मनुष्य सूर्यकी ओर नहीं देख सकते, उसी प्रकार कौरव अर्जुनकी ओर देखनेमें असमर्थ हो गये थे
śarārciṣaṃ gāṇḍīva-cāru-maṇḍalaṃ yugānta-sūrya-pratimāna-tejasam | na kauravāḥ śekur udīkṣituṃ jayaṃ yathā raviṃ vyādhita-cakṣuṣo janāḥ ||
Karna said: “Arjuna appeared blazing like the sun at the end of an age. His arrows flashed forth like streams of rays in every direction, and his drawn Gāṇḍīva looked like the sun’s lovely disc. Just as people with diseased eyes cannot gaze upon the sun, so the Kauravas were unable to look toward Arjuna—overwhelmed by the radiance of his prowess and the certainty of his victory.”
