कर्णनिधनवृत्तान्तनिवेदनम् | Reporting Karṇa’s Fall to Yudhiṣṭhira

तादृशं पश्यते बालो यस्य सत्यमनुछितम् | जब किसीका सर्वस्व छीना जा रहा हो तो उसे बचानेके लिये झूठ बोलना कर्तव्य है। वहाँ असत्य ही सत्य और सत्य ही असत्य हो जाता है। जो मूर्ख है, वही यथाकथंचित् व्यवहारमें लाये हुए एक-जैसे सत्यको सर्वत्र आवश्यक समझता है
Translation
Only a fool insists on the same kind of “truth” everywhere, even when it is unfit to the occasion. When someone’s all is being seized away, speaking falsehood to save it becomes a duty; there, untruth becomes truth, and truth becomes untruth.
