Sañjaya said: O Bhārata, after the son of Kuntī (Arjuna) had fought with Droṇa’s son and overcome that preceptor’s son in battle—one so formidable that even Vajrin (Indra) would find him hard to face—he cast his gaze over the entire army as he was departing, wishing to see Dharmarāja. Yet he did not see his elder brother anywhere there.

Even amid victory in war, the righteous warrior’s mind remains oriented toward responsibility and relationships: Arjuna’s first impulse after overcoming a formidable foe is to seek Dharmarāja, reflecting loyalty, accountability, and concern for the moral center of the Pāṇḍava cause.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna has fought and defeated Droṇa’s son Aśvatthāmā—described as nearly unbearable even for Indra to face—and then, while leaving, scans the army to find Yudhiṣṭhira (Dharmarāja), but cannot see him anywhere.
