Sañjaya said: “In full view of all the armies—and even as you yourselves watched—my father, having laid down his weapons, was struck down by Dhṛṣṭadyumna.”

The verse highlights accountability in warfare: even amid battle, killing someone who has laid down arms is portrayed as ethically condemnable. By stressing that it happened “in everyone’s sight,” the text frames dharma not only as personal conduct but as a public moral order witnessed and judged.
Sañjaya reports to the Kuru side that his father was killed by Dhṛṣṭadyumna despite being disarmed. The statement functions as a lament and an accusation, emphasizing that the act occurred openly before both armies and the leaders who were watching.
