जगाम भरतमश्रेष्ठ वध्यमानं परस्परम् | भरतश्रेष्ठ! परस्पर मार खाती हुई वह सेना रक्तके प्रवाहमें डूबकर खूनसे लथपथ हो गयी थी और एक-दूसरेकी चोट खाकर विनाशको प्राप्त हो रही थी
jagāma bharataśreṣṭha vadhyamānaṃ parasparam |
Sañjaya said: “O best of the Bharatas, that host, striking and being struck by one another, sank into streams of blood. Smeared with gore and shattered by mutual blows, it moved toward destruction.”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the self-destructive nature of unchecked violence: when combat becomes mutual slaughter, the battlefield turns into a moral collapse where life is consumed in bloodshed, warning that dharma is endangered when rage and vengeance dominate.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the opposing forces are striking each other relentlessly; the army is soaked in blood and, through reciprocal blows, is being driven toward annihilation.
